The Munich Composers Collective (MCC) is an ensemble consisting of alumni of the Jazz Institute and the classical music department of the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. MCC was founded in 2014 by Professor Gregor Hübner and has since made a name for itself in the cross-genre music scene far beyond Munich. It currently has eighteen participants and has been firmly involved in the Progressive ChamberMusic Festival founded by the Sirius Quartet 5 years ago.
The instrumental composition of the ensemble is independent. In addition to a smaller big band line-up (four saxophones/clarinets/flutes, two trumpets/flugelhorns, a trombone, tuba, string quartet, and rhythm section with acoustic and electric bass), you hear tuba and a string quartet .The MCC exclusively plays pieces composed by band members and also follows the spirit of the Ensemble Modern, founded in Frankfurt in 1980, in its anti-hierarchical organization. The numerous, excellent reviews of the press show that the MCC has become relevant in international comparison and has found its very own voice. The compositions combine elements of jazz and contemporary classic, but also of independent rock and contemporary improvised music. Through this independent mix, the MCC sees itself as an artistically distinguished ensemble that is constantly developing at a high musical level. In 2023, MCC became "Ensemble in Residence" at Werksviertel-MitteKunst in Munich. The Munich Composers Collective called MCC is one of my favorite projects in the last couple years because it also shows my work as a teacher in a beautiful way. Allof the compositions on this album are written by former students of mine and I am very proud of them. I added 2 of mine including Digital Code, the title track of this
recording. It also shows how todays music can open up to all genres and this is only the beginning. With this kind of ensemble you can sound like an orchestra, a big band, a punk band or a free jazz collective and that excites me tremendously. Every time we play this music live it is mezmorizing to the audience because every composition is different and has it’s own personal
story. I know with MCC we can go anywhere in the world and people will understand our unique musical language. Thanks to all the members of the band, to Angelika for all your work, helping us to promote MCC. To our engineer Johannes, my partner for over 30 years on numerous recordings and my family for all the support.Gregor Huebner
